Choose a 500 g javelin from Nordic Sport to suit your throwing technique.

Nordic Sport has a long tradition of developing javelins for athletes and event organisers around the world. The renowned Swedish javelins were originally made from thin-walled steel tubing by Seefab in Sandviken. Nordic Sport took over production in 1973.

These javelins have been used to achieve Olympic medals, world championship titles and world records. Throwing distance depends primarily on the athlete's skill, but materials and construction are also important. Through experience and continuous research and development, Nordic Sport offers models for different skill levels and throwing styles.

Advance Tip Control

Advance Tip Control, or ATC, is our technology for optimising the javelin's moment of inertia. It helps the javelin align quickly with its flight path and reduces its tendency to change direction in the air. The thrower can also feel the intended direction and flight path during the run-up.

What affects throwing distance?

The athlete's technique is the most important factor. When choosing a javelin, also consider experience, stiffness, aerodynamics and balance. The right combination helps the thrower feel comfortable and confident with the javelin.

Skill level

Javelins are designed for different levels. A model intended for an expert will not perform as intended in a beginner's hands. Our scale has five levels: 1. Novice, 2. Advanced Beginner, 3. Skilled, 4. Specialist and 5. Expert.

Stiffness

A stiffer javelin bends and vibrates less in the air, which can reduce drag. However, it places greater demands on the upper body. A softer javelin bends and vibrates more and may suit a less experienced thrower.

Aerodynamics

Material selection and precisely adjusted geometry are two important factors in a javelin's construction and cost. Nordic Sport develops the aerodynamics in relation to each model's stiffness and balance to optimise its flight characteristics.

Balance

Balance and aerodynamics affect when, at a given speed, the tip turns towards the ground. If your javelin tends to land flat, a model with lower aerodynamics and balance ratings may be more suitable. Our highest-performing javelins have their centre of mass close to the limit permitted by World Athletics.
